Special Numbers
There are some special telephone numbers which don't conform to the usual format. Some examples are:
- 999 and 112 Emergency numbers to contact the Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Coastguard and Mountain Rescue
- 100 - The Operator
- 101 - Police Non-Emergency Number
- 111 - NHS 111 for fast medical help but not an emergency
- 116XXX - Helplines for Services of Social Importanc
- 118XXX - Directory Enquiries
- 123 - The Speaking Clock
- 1471 - Last Call Return which gives the time and telephone number of the last received call
- 1571 - Automated Messaging Service provided by some operators to take messages when a number is busy or not answered in a certain time
- 0800 1111 - ChildLine
- 0845 4647 - NHS Direct (note that this number is being replaced by 111)
